Can you be allergic to what's in the water bottle?

To be more specific, I mean can you be allergic to the chemicals they use to purify the water in order to drink it? How rare would be that allergic reaction? And if you get something your allergic to rubbed on your skin does it do the same affect on your skin then from when you eat it?
