General relativity question?
You answered your own question. Time is relative and just the moment things occur relative to each other in the universe, or when matter is existing in the universe at a certain place and time. Speed really has nothing to do with time if you think about it. No matter how fast the spaceship is traveling, you would experience time lapse on the ship. Time would still be there not because it took a short amount of time to travel to the Earth, but because the spaceship existing no matter what speed it goes take up time. Time exists no matter where you are or what speed you are traveling in the universe. Time will have passed for you on the ship. It's just that the object is traveling faster than light, but it is still matter taking up space at a certain time and moment in the universe. When people say time is relative they mean everything existing involves time in the universe, not how long it takes an object to go from one place to another, which is THE time it takes for something to move.
